  • What do you mean by visual artist?

We define a practising visual artist by demonstrating either representation by a contemporary art gallery, have a record of solo or group exhibition presentations and/or fine art or related higher level education. It does not matter if your main practice is film, but you must be able to demonstrate why you are making a feature length film as part of your visual art practice.
Participants must have a significant experience of short film production and/or moving image practice and a feature film in development and intended for theatrical distribution.

  • What type of films are accepted?

We welcome feature film with an ideal minimum lenght of 50 minutes. Any genre or type or budget of film project is accepted from experimental, to documentary to fiction.
You should be committed to realising its development and it is likely you are the director and are looking for, or already have, producers attached.

  • How are bursaries allocated?

The bursaries are selected by the Course Directors for the most promising films and artists. Where a bursary is supported by an another organisation they may be also involved in selection. Note that where a specific country supports a bursary, this may mean the recipient must be based in or from that country. There is tough competition for the bursaries so applicants are advised to research potential funding schemes, i.e. artist development funds in your country.

  • When is the course taking place?

Participants are expected to attend both residentials in Manchester and Florence on the confirmed 2018 course dates in June (20 – 25) and November (14 – 18). One to one online catch up and tutorials will take place in between these 2 dates arranged according to you and the tutor’s diaries.
